Innovative businesses operating in the maritime sector may be eligible for significant new grant funding following the launch of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 7 (CMDC7) by Innovate UK.
The programme forms part of the UK government’s wider push to accelerate maritime decarbonisation and support the development of cleaner shipping technologies.
Funding is available for organisations developing solutions such as alternative fuels, propulsion systems, vessel efficiency improvements and clean port infrastructure.
Funding Opportunities
The competition includes three funding strands designed to support projects at different stages of development:
- Deployment Trials – £3 million to £15 million
This strand supports real-world demonstrations of innovative clean maritime technologies in operational environments. Projects should develop, test and deploy solutions for use on vessels, within maritime infrastructure, or both.
- Pre-deployment Trials – £750,000 to £6 million
Funding is available for projects that design, develop and test innovative technologies prior to full deployment. Projects should focus on preparing technologies for future operational use in vessels or maritime infrastructure.
- Feasibility Studies – £100,000 to £1 million
This strand supports primarily desk-based technical and economic feasibility studies. Projects should assess the viability of new clean maritime technologies, skills initiatives, or solutions intended for future real-world demonstration.
How We Can Help
